By accessing or using our website, interactive tracking maps, data visualizations, and disaster preparedness resources, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with these Terms, please discontinue use of the service.
1. Acceptance of Terms & Educational Nature
StormAtlas provides public weather information, storm-tracking visualizations, historical cyclone research resources, and preparedness materials for informational and educational purposes. The platform is designed to make meteorological information more accessible; it is not a substitute for official warnings, professional meteorological services, emergency management instructions, or independent judgment. Your continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of these Terms, as amended from time to time.
2. Critical Meteorological Disclaimer & Emergency Directives
CRITICAL SAFETY DIRECTIVE: StormAtlas is an independent educational WebGIS platform and data-visualization service. It is NOT an official government emergency dispatch system, emergency communications service, evacuation coordination center, or authoritative warning service. During severe weather, tropical cyclone threats, hurricane or typhoon warnings, storm surge events, or mandatory evacuation situations, ALWAYS follow current instructions, alerts, watches, warnings, and evacuation orders issued by the competent local civil authorities and official national or regional meteorological agencies, including agencies such as NOAA/NHC, CMA, JMA, JTWC, and WMO. Do not delay evacuation, sheltering, medical assistance, or any other emergency action because of information displayed by StormAtlas or any other third-party online visualization.
3. Intellectual Property, Open Data Attribution & Fair Use
Except for third-party materials and data subject to their respective licenses or public-domain status, the original software, user-interface designs, code, database structures, documentation, branding, and custom visualization and rendering components of StormAtlas are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws and remain the property of StormAtlas or its licensors. Meteorological observations, warnings, and cyclone-track data may originate from official public-sector or open-data sources, including NOAA/NHC, CMA, JMA, KMA, JTWC, and BOM, subject to the applicable source terms, licenses, and attribution requirements. Lawful quotation, citation, and other permitted uses for research, education, and journalism are allowed where consistent with applicable law and the relevant source terms. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of third-party data to StormAtlas or grants rights beyond those permitted by the applicable license.
4. Prohibited Conduct & Automated Scraping Restrictions
You must not use the service to conduct malicious attacks, attempt or facilitate distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) activity, circumvent security controls, flood APIs or infrastructure with unauthorized requests, interfere with service availability, or perform automated bulk extraction or scraping that materially degrades system performance or availability. Reasonable automated access for lawful indexing, research, accessibility, or other permitted purposes must respect applicable technical controls, rate limits, and published restrictions.
5. Disclaimers of Warranties & Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICE AND ITS CONTENT ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE. STORMATLASX AND ITS CONTRIBUTORS DO NOT WARRANT THAT WEATHER DATA, TRACKS, MAPS, FORECAST-RELATED INFORMATION, OR OTHER CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, AVAILABLE, OR ERROR-FREE. STORMATLASX IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR OFFICIAL EMERGENCY WARNINGS OR PROFESSIONAL ADVICE. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STORMATLASX AND ITS CONTRIBUTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROPERTY, DATA, REVENUE, OR OTHER LOSSES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO USE OF THE SERVICE. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES OR LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED.
6. Modifications & Contact Information
We may revise these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the service, technology, or applicable law. Updated Terms become effective when posted, unless a different effective date is stated. Where required by applicable law, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
