Gradual organization of the low-level circulation allowed the disturbance to become a tropical depression at 0000 UTC on 3 August, positioned about 1,270 nautical miles west-southwest of Baja California.

Early satellite imagery showed increasing convective activity near the center, while operational meteorologists used multiple satellite-based tools, including microwave observations and scatterometer measurements, to analyze the developing circulation.
Daniel’s initial track was slow and generally westward before a gradual turn toward the north and northeast. The movement was influenced by the broader atmospheric flow associated with Tropical Storm Carlotta, which was located farther north in the eastern Pacific. This interaction altered Daniel’s steering pattern and prevented the storm from following a direct westward path.
Unlike systems that threaten the U.S. Gulf Coast, Caribbean islands, or coastal Mexico, Daniel remained confined to the open Pacific. Peak Intensity at 35 Knots: Why Daniel Never Strengthened Further
Daniel reached its strongest phase on 4 August 2024 as it moved through the eastern North Pacific. At peak intensity, the storm maintained maximum sustained winds of 35 knots with an estimated minimum central pressure of 1005 mb. The cyclone reached its peak strength near 13°N, 130°W based on the final best-track analysis.
The storm remained a minimal tropical cyclone and showed little change in organization after reaching tropical storm status. Satellite imagery indicated that Daniel’s cloud pattern briefly became better defined, allowing forecasters to estimate its peak intensity, but the system never developed the deep, persistent structure associated with stronger hurricanes.
Several environmental factors limited Daniel’s growth. Although warm ocean waters supported continued tropical convection, the storm faced conditions that prevented further intensification. The circulation struggled to maintain a compact inner core, and convection around the center became inconsistent as Daniel moved through the eastern Pacific environment.

Dissipation by 5 August: The Final Hours of a Short-Lived Cyclone
After reaching peak strength, Daniel began losing organization as its circulation weakened over the eastern Pacific. By 5 August, satellite observations showed that the storm’s low-level center had become less defined, and the system no longer maintained the structure needed to remain a tropical storm.
Daniel weakened into a tropical depression before dissipating at 1800 UTC on 5 August near 15.8°N, 127.2°W. The cyclone completed a lifecycle of less than three days from formation to dissipation, making it one of the shorter-lived named storms of the season.
The final analysis classified Daniel as a minimal and brief tropical storm with no reported fatalities or property damage. Its entire track remained over open waters, and the cyclone never approached any coastline during its short lifecycle.
